Frequently Asked Questions About This Treatment
Have questions about this treatment? You’re not alone. From treatment timelines to costs and recovery, we’re here to guide you with clear answers, expert advice, and personalized support at every step.
Will my treatment plan or the price you gave me change when I arrive?

Good question. Unfortunately, many patients who travel for their treatment face unethical practices in clinics they prefer such as getting bullied about surprise charges by clinics.

The plan and price we share with you are carefully prepared based on the photos, X-rays, or details and your expectations that you send us before your trip. When you arrive, we simply confirm everything in person with an examination before beginning your treatment.

Sometimes, however, a small detail that could not be seen in the photos or x-rays may show up during the clinic examination. For example, this might be the need to reinforce your bone tissue with grafting and sinus lifting procedure. Unlike most clinics that deal with international patients, the pricing and the possibility of these details are transparently shared with you in your treatment plan.

If that happens, we will explain it clearly, show you the issue, and discuss all the options with you before making any changes. Nothing is ever done without your agreement.

Your treatment plan and price will stay the same unless we discover something new during your check-up. Even then, we’ll decide together with you about your options before moving forward with any treatments.

Will you help me with accommodation?

Yes, of course. Our patients regularly travel from abroad, so we make sure you feel supported not only with your dental treatment but also with your stay in Istanbul. We can recommend trusted hotels close to our clinic, and if you prefer, we can also help arrange your booking.

Our goal is to make your trip as smooth and stress-free as possible, so you can focus on your treatment and enjoy your time in the city. We’ll gladly assist you with accommodation and make sure you have comfortable options during your visit.

Is it safe to travel to Turkey?

Yes! Turkey is a very popular destination for international visitors and millions of tourists travel here safely every year. Cities like Istanbul are not only cultural and historical centers but also well-prepared to welcome patients from abroad with modern clinics, hotels, and transport services and many world-renowned touristic attractions.

Like in any big city, it’s always wise to take normal travel precautions — such as keeping your valuables safe and being aware of your surroundings. Our clinic also helps arrange trusted transportation and accommodation options to make sure you feel comfortable and secure during your stay. With the extra support we provide, your dental trip can also be a smooth and worry-free experience.

I have bad breath. Can gum disease cause bad breath?

Unfortunately yes, it can. Gum problems often mean there is a build-up of bacteria and tartar under the gums. These bacteria release odors when they feed on the food particles left inside your mouth, which can lead to persistent bad breath. Infections or gum disease can make this even stronger.

The good news is that with proper treatment and good oral care, it will improve quickly. Regular dental cleanings, brushing, flossing, and treating any gum issues are the key to keeping your breath fresh.

What materials are used for dental crowns at your clinic?

We utilize the latest technologies and treatment protocols available in dentistry.

Regarding dental prostheses, Ivoclar (Swiss) brand is used veneers meanwhile Amman-Girrbach brand is preferred for all on 4/6 treatments over implants.

Can I see the shape and color of my teeth before they are made?

Yes, absolutely. During smile design, we show you a simulation of your new teeth before they are actually made. With a “mock-up” model, you can see both the color and the shape of your future teeth, and even how they will look inside your mouth. Once you approve the mock-up, the final teeth are produced according to your choice.

One important note: after your restorations are made, they cannot be lightened further, but they can be adjusted to a slightly darker shade if needed. That’s why we discuss all details with you beforehand and take your feedback seriously, so the final result matches exactly what you want.

In short: yes, you’ll see a preview of your new smile before treatment — and you’ll have a chance to approve the look before the final teeth are made.

How long does teeth whitening (dental bleaching) last?

The effects of whitening are not permanent, but with good care they can last quite a while. On average, most patients enjoy their brighter smile for a year. How long it lasts also heavily depends on your habits. For example, drinking coffee, tea, red wine, or smoking can make the teeth darken again more quickly.

Regular brushing, routine dental cleanings, and avoiding too many staining foods or drinks will help keep the results for longer. Some patients also choose a small “touch-up” session once in a while to maintain their ideal shade.

Can I cover my tooth with gold or another type of jewelry?

Yes, it is possible to cover a tooth with gold or add a decorative piece, but it’s not something we recommend for long-term use. While gold is strong and safe, jewelry-style caps are usually chosen for looks rather than health. They don’t always fit as securely as regular crowns, which means food and bacteria can get trapped, leading to problems like cavities or gum issues.

If you’re interested in this type of design, it can be arranged as a special request.

While teeth can be covered with gold or jewelry, but regular crowns are healthier and safer for everyday use, so protecting your oral health will always be our top priority.

Can I safely postpone my dental treatments?

Postponing dental treatment is possible, but it is not the safest choice. Dental health issues tend to present themselves without major symptoms and are progressive. Small problems like cavities or gum issues often start out painless. But over time, they can grow and lead to bigger issues such as infections, tooth loss, then bone loss, or the need for more complex treatments.

If your situation isn’t urgent, a short delay may not cause harm. However, the longer you wait, the higher the risk that the problem becomes more serious and costly to fix. More delay means more chances for your oral and dental health to get worse.

It’s best not to delay dental treatment. If you have concerns about timing, consult your dentist. Together you can make a plan that fits your needs.

Why are zirconia crowns recommended for back teeth instead of veneers?

Back teeth literally do most of the heavy lifting when you chew, so they need a much stronger material to handle the pressure. Zirconia is very strong, which makes it much less likely to crack or break in the chewing area.

Veneers, on the other hand, are very thin and only cover the front surface of the tooth. While they look beautiful, they are not designed to handle strong bite forces. So if they were to be placed on back teeth, they could easily break after just a few bites.

That’s why veneers are used mainly for front teeth, where the focus is on aesthetics, while zirconia is preferred for the back teeth, where strength and durability are most important.

Are teeth that have seen some preparation more prone to dental decay?

A tooth that has been cut down for a crown is considered more fragile than a completely natural tooth. That’s why, if there’s no real problem with the root, no cracks, or no decay, most good dentists prefer to leave a natural tooth untouched unless there’s a strong reason — such as color, shape, or smile design.

There is a slightly higher risk of decay, cracks, or other issues in a crowned tooth compared to a natural one. However, the real concern is the tooth underneath the crown. If the crown wasn’t made properly and allows food or bacteria to get trapped, or if oral hygiene is not good, decay or infection can develop under it.

The good news is: if your crowns are done by an experienced dentist and you take proper care — brushing daily, keeping regular check-ups, and maintaining good oral hygiene — the chance of decay under a crown is very low. Crowns don’t automatically mean more decay. However, it requires proper dental work and good care at home, the risk is very low.

How long will my crowns last after getting them done?

The lifespan of your crowns really depends on how well you take care of your teeth. Remember, beneath every crown there is still your natural tooth, no matter its size and shape. If you brush at least twice a day, visit your dentist every 6 months for a check-up and cleaning, your crowns can easily last 20–25 years.

Some patients have even kept their crowns for 30 years. However, most dentists recommend replacing them about every 15 years. This isn’t always because the crown fails, it's because we can safely remove it, check the tooth underneath for any decay or gum problems, and then refresh the crown if needed.

Yes, with good care, crowns can last decades — but regular check-ups are the key to making sure they stay healthy in your mouth for the long term

How much are my teeth going to be altered for veneers and crowns?

Veneers (laminates) are very thin and they are made from porcelain. Because they are more fragile, they are usually recommended to be utilized on the “smile line” — the 20 teeth that show when you smile. Zirconia crowns, on the other hand, are much stronger material, so they can be placed on all teeth in the mouth, including the chewing teeth in the back area and also on implants.

The way teeth are prepared for each treatment type is also different. For zirconia crowns, the tooth is reduced all around so it becomes smaller, and the crown covers it completely.

For veneers, since they are used for smile design and aesthetics expectations, we remove only a very small amount from the front surface of the teeth — usually about 0.2 to 0.5 mm. This way, most of your natural tooth stays untouched.

Veneers are mainly for the front teeth and require minimal shaving (preparation), while zirconia crowns are stronger, cover the whole tooth, and can also be used on back teeth

I didn’t like my teeth color, can I change it after getting them?

Yes, you will have a chance to choose your tooth color before the treatment is finalized. We usually tell patients to stay for 7–10 days to take care of this process and decide without rushing, during which you’ll be shown a color chart to help you pick the shade that best matches your skin tone and personal preference.

One important thing to know is this: if the chosen color feels too white or too bright after placement, we can send it back to the lab to make it a little darker later. But if you choose a shade that isn’t white enough, it cannot be lightened further afterwards — that is unfortunately not possible.

That’s why it’s very important to discuss openly with your dentist during the process, so together we can choose the color that will make you happiest and satisfy your expectations.
