What is Sinus Lifting?

With the loss of teeth in the upper jaw, posterior region, loss of bone tissue surrounding the tooth may occur over time. Sagging can be observed in the sinus cavities adjacent to this region. Due to the loss of tissue, the bone tissue in the area may not be sufficient for successful implant treatment. In this case, the treatment of the loss in the sinus floor by raising the bone tissue in this region in order to make an ideal implant treatment is called sinus elevation.

Does sinus augmentation cause prolongation of the implant treatment process?

In many cases, sinus floor elevation can be performed at the same time as implant treatment. The most important criterion in deciding to apply these procedures together is the presence of bone tissue in the area to ensure the stability of the implant. In areas with advanced bone loss, it may not be possible to ensure the immobility of the implant. In this case, since an ideal implant treatment cannot be performed, the sinus lift procedure is expected to fuse with the bone tissue in the region. After an average of 6 months, the bone tissue in the area becomes suitable for ideal stability of the implant. After this process is completed, implant treatment can be started. You can find detailed information about implant treatments in our Dental Implant article on our website.

What awaits you in the sinus lift treatment process?

Sinus amplification process; It is performed comfortably under local anesthesia in a very short time. In the first session, a detailed clinical and radiographic examination is performed, and the patient’s need for treatment and suitability for sinus elevation treatment are examined. After the decision to perform a sinus lift application, the procedure is planned to be most suitable for implant application. During the treatment session, the sinus membrane surrounding the sinus walls is raised from the floor at the required rate. Bone grafts, called bone powder, are placed in the area formed here. The bone graft is covered with a special membrane and closed with soft tissue sutures. In case the necessary conditions are met; Implant application is also done after the sinus augmentation process, in the same session with this process.

What awaits you in the process after the sinus lift treatment?

No food should be consumed for 2 hours after the sinus lift procedure. Eating with the teeth in the untreated area for 24 hours following the treatment is beneficial in protecting the wound area. In addition, taking care not to create high pressure while cleaning the nose is beneficial in ensuring the effectiveness of the treatment. Some pain and edema may develop in response to this new situation due to the bone insertion procedure in the area. This situation; It can be minimized by regular use of the drugs prescribed by the dentist, applying cold compresses to the area for the first 24 hours, and ensuring the hygiene of the area. In this way, side effects; It loses its effect in a short time without causing loss of comfort.

After the treatment, the formation of an ideal bone tissue in the treated area usually takes place within 6-12 months. In this process, bone grafting; Thanks to the substances it contains, it supports bone formation and growth, and provides the desired increase in bone volume and density.
